Jenni Stewart

INTERIM EXECUTIVE & ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Jenni Stewart joined Shakespeare Dallas in 2007, previously serving as the Associate Artistic Director. She has been instrumental in expanding and diversifying programs, including the development of new plays and works outside Shakespeare. At SD, she has directed productions of Much Ado About Nothing, The Tempest, Shakespeare’s Henriad (Richard II, Henry VI Parts 1-2,Henry V) Romeo and Juliet, The Wars of the Roses (Henry VI Parts 1-3, Richard III), and The Taming of the Shrew.

Stewart was selected as Best Director of 2018 by the Dallas Observer for her production of The Taming of the Shrew, and her production of Romeo and Juliet was featured as one of the “Top Ten Theater Performances of 2021” by CultureMap Dallas. Additionally, she conceived the Hamlet Project, featuring original plays by Migdalia Cruz and Erik Ehn, as well as conceived and directed the filmed performance project Shakespeare and the Suffragists. 5-year partnership with the AT&T Performing Arts Center to produce “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare,” a canon completion project that produced the entire body of Shakespeare’s work - all 38 plays, 154 sonnets, and 2 narrative poems -which completed in May of 2017.

From 2017–2020, Jenni served as Treasurer of the Shakespeare Theatre Association, an international organization established to foster artistic, managerial, and educational leadership for theaters focused on the works of William Shakespeare. Jenni is also an artist, actor, and producer for the Dallas community. She has served as a Producing Artist at Project X: Theatre since 2007, working on such notable projects as Erik Ehn’s Diamond Dick: The Tulsa Race Riots of 1921, BOY, and recently, his debut film Maid. Jenni joined the Board of Directors of Project X: Theatre in2010.
